Inspiration Park

September 24th 2009

September 13th 2009, A Park has been growing in Abbotsford on the corner of Emerson and Simon. They call it "Inspiration Park". Dean Lauze is the artist painting the Mural. You can recognize the Abbotsford people of inspiration. Who do you see?

The weather has been exceptional for the painting, it should soon be done.

Light to Dark

Downtown Langley was hopping on Saturday the 12th of September. The streets were all closed off to traffic except for the cars in the Car show. But Steve and I were going to Langley to participate in the art demonstration by Dan Tibbits "Art of Nature".

Dan started out with acrylics. He likes to have his paint thin so he dilutes it with water. Working on an illustration board he first splatters the paint with his brush. You can let it roll around by turning your board up and around. He puts layers on, blow drying in between splatters. Tamping with a cloth and wipping will give more effects.

Dan is now adding shadow to bring out what he sees in the splatters.

You can now see the rocks, water drop and wood.

Next he worked on a framed board painting with oils. Again he likes to thin his oils he uses galkyd light. After watching and listening to Dan I have realized I have been using my brushes wrong. I have been very protective of my brushes and always go with the grain so to speak, not Dan he buys cheap brushes and cuts them and tortures them by dabbing and swirling and pushing them into his work. He also uses the handle end of his brush to scrap paint away.

Impressions left behind

Yesterday I had my sign removed from the building that once housed "Durant Illusions Fashions and Art Gallery". Friends and family reminisce the favorite art shows and the garments I made for them. Like the fading memories impressed upon our minds the sign and all that remains will soon be gone, hopefully some good memories will linger. This building will house a new adventure in 3D photography.

Litter is not art, butts of prevalence.

I love to walk, I get out for a walk as often as I can which is not often enough.The one thing I always see on my walks are cigarette butts, that have been idly discarded with no thought as to the fire hazards or care that they are the most littered items on the streets and walk ways. I see more butts that junk and fast food wrappers. I watch with contempt as people precariously throw their smoldering cigarettes out their car windows rain or fire hazard season.

I remember as a small child going somewhere in my Aunts car. She was driving and smoking, I was in the seat behind her. I get motion sickness and had the window open as big as I could to get fresh air, my Aunt flicked her cigarette ash out the window which flew right back into the car and into my eye. I was grateful my Dad didn't smoke, Mom would only sneak a smoke now and then. Mom's Dad was a carpenter and grew tobacco on a small acreage in Kentucky.

Tobacco has always made me sick, I keep as far away from tobacco smoke as I can. And I don't mean to lump all smokers into one category but some of them do not care about how they effect other people or whether they started the forest fire and that they are littering.

Smokers please clean up your butts I am sick of looking at them!
